See New York City the cliché way

One of the most visited places in the United States is New York City. The city, overflowing with entertainment, enterprise and enriching culture, attracts tourists from all over the world. If you’re in New York City for a short period of time the best way to see the most of the city is to visit the cliché tourist spots.

Statue of Liberty/Harbor Tour:

If you’re in New York City during the summer months a harbor tour is a great way to see the famous Statue of Liberty. The boat rides are usually not that expensive and are well worth the money, showing views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Staten Island and the New York cityscape.

Empire State Building:

The Empire State Building is the most popular building in New York City and holds one of the best views of the beautiful city. The 102-story skyscraper is located on Fifth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th streets, just a short walk away from the famous Macy’s store. I would recommend going at sunset to see the city light up, but be aware of the very long elevator/staircase journey to the top.

9/11 Memorial and Freedom Tower:

The attack on the twin towers is a tragedy that Americans will never forget. The city has cleared away the destruction and built a new One World Trade Center and a memorial for those who lost their lives. The memorial holds two square fountains outlining the base of the two towers with the names of every lost soul around the exterior.

The Freedom Tower opened in 2014 and is the tallest building in New York City. Visitors can now tour the memorial then go up to the observation deck in the tower to see the view of the city.

Broadway Show:

New York City is the top destination for singers, dancers and performers looking to make it big on Broadway. Even if you’re not a theater type of person, going to see a show is a staple to the New York experience. I have seen Wicked, Newsies and The Phantom of the Opera all in New York, and the captivating mixture of acting, dancing and music never ceases to amaze me.

Central Park:

Unless you’re in New York City for several weeks, there is no way to see all of Central Park. However, even for a few hours, it is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the streets. The beautiful, record-breaking park is 843 acres and 2.5 miles long, with everything from wildlife to amphitheaters to sculptures.

Times Square:

To get the full New York City experience you need to visit Times Square. With huge shopping centers, amazing food and people everywhere, Times Square is definitely the center of city life.

Madame Tussauds:

Madame Tussauds is a wax museum that is located in almost every large city around the world. Though it is not unique to New York City, it’s a really fun place to go when you’re there, especially if it’s extremely hot outside (it was when I went).

Though it would be nice to know every unique place in New York City, for short-term trips, sometimes the cliché way is the best way.
